My suggestion? Look at before/after screenshots of Rebirth and decide for yourself. The game's origional models are just distracting. So while the models are a little "weird", I think Rebirth is still an essential mod. We're talking weirdly low at the time of release (I'm pretty sure they cut down the polygons to save on performance, as SS2 ran like a damaged tugboat at the time of launch).Īs an example, here's the polys from that maligned cyborg: Their poly count is so low that they look like origami figures instead of monsters. On the other hand, the original SS2 models are one of the weakest parts of the game's design. SS2 is perfectly playable and you can get the gist of what happened b4 without playing ss1. I played half way thru ss1 before I decided to quit. On the one hand, you're right, the new models are a little off. I have finished 4 games of SS2, started multipile games, experimented with various builds and have hours in coop. The rest of the mods are very faithful, just increasing the fidelity and fixing bugs. My advice is to follow the newbie modding guide to the letter except skip Rebirth entirely.
